At Piyura Kitina/Risdon Cove on the eastern shore of the River Derwent in Hobart freshly dug soil represents the beginnings of a project that will see a return to old ways for the Tasmanian Aboriginal community using the space.
It is the first step in creating a large bush-food garden teeming with edible ground cover, vines, and larger shrubs.
The garden is to be used by Tasmanian Aboriginal-owned food business Palawa Kipli to harvest produce and provide bush-food tours.
But it will also offer education on bush food to the wider community and is part of a long-term plan to revegetate the site with native plants.
