ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

We would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians and knowledge holders of the land, The Gadigal of the Eora Nation, and thank them for their ongoing commitment and care for the Country that we live and work on. We would also like to extend our acknowledgement to Elders past, present, and emerging. We feel very honoured to be within such a treasured part of the world, and therefore strive to build a stronger connection with our surroundings.
Australia always has and always will be, Aboriginal Land.

International Compost Awareness Week Australia

This week (May 4-10) is International Compost Awareness Week Australia! This year’s theme, ‘Sustainable Communities Begin with Compost!‘ highlights the environmental benefits of composting. By recycling organic waste and returning it to our soils, we can reduce greenhouse emissions. It’s also nature’s gold for gardeners and can be used to enrich soil, improve the soil’s moisture retention, and support healthy plant growth. Hannah shares an easy composting solution for beginners in ABC Gardening Australia Magazine May issue:

“Trench composting was probably the original form of food waste composting and it’s easy to start. Simply dig a hole at least 30cm wide and 30cm deep and tip your mixed scraps into it. Cover them with soil and walk away. You can do this in a vegetable bed or perennial garden– just make sure to bury the food scraps deep enough that the plants’ roots have space to grow. As the food scraps break down, the plants will draw on the nutrients released to grow big, strong and healthy.”
